variety of fiction. The materials are aimed at satisfying and motivating
students to read for pleasure. Novel Units® guides
emphasize independent reading and discussion, rather than oral reading and
the use of workbooks. The questioning techniques emphasize higher-order
thinking skills and Bloom's Taxonomy. Evaluation is informally done by the
teacher through group participation, individual conferences, and written
or creative assignments. With Novel Units guides, both
activities and discussions work to persuade students that reading is fun
and worthwhile.
