When the Games Began
A playwright (a person who writes plays) wants to write a play that takes place when the Olympics first began. You are hired to research the early history of the Olympics for the playwright. During your investigation, you should find out--

• where the Olympics began
• when the Olympics began
• the origin of the name of the games
• why the games were first held
• the events of the early Olympics
• the awards given to the winning athletes in ancient times
• how the early Olympics helped people mark the passage of time

Informative Writing
Once you have found all of the information the playwright asked for, summarize it for the playwright in an informative paragraph.
